That time we drove to the Olympic Peninsula with the dogs

Last weekend warrented a fairly impromtu road trip to the Olympic Peninsula. Given that it was Labor Day weekend and we had no plans and had talked about going to Port Townsend all summer, we finally did it. We loaded the dogs in Otto von Jetta (our new car) and took an early ferry to Kingston and then onto Port Gamble and Port Townsend.

We didn't have set plans, just that we wanted to visit port towns and taste beer and see how Lola and Mae handled being in a car for hours (they were in crates and didn't seem to mind. There was no way we were letting them climb on our new faux leather seats. Mostly they just ate their bones and napped).

Lola's jail cell/ car seat:

Given that it was rainy and cold, Lola wore her raincoat when we went hiking around an old fort on the beach in Port Townsend. Mae West is hardcore and went naked. They really enjoyed old lighthouses and forts. According to Mr. Snowgoose, they are the best traveling dogs given that they love history.

After the hike, Mr. Snowgoose and I went in search of food and beer. We hit the Port Townsend Brewery which only serves beer.

But it was good and cheap! Cheap enough that Mr. Snowgoose would take the ferry just to stock up.

Fortunately there was a very good taco place across the street.

On our way to Port Townsend we had passed signs for a farm/ cidery. Intrigued by it, we stopped at one on our way back to the ferry. Apparently the Olympic Peninsula is booming with cideries. Some of them better than others. We hit two.

The first was a little too dry for us.

But we saw them actually making it!

The second place was a little sweeter and I bought a bottle.

We hopped on a ferry and went home. This short road trip proved that the dogs can behave. I imagine traveling with puppies is quite like traveling with small childen, only we get to kennel the dogs.
