Weekend adventure in which we go to PDX

Cougar came to the Pacific NorthWet last week for a library conference in Portland. Since she was on my side of the country I opted to hop a train and meet her in the Rose City for a weekend of Grilled Cheese and books and lots of catching up.

Our first real destination on Saturday as the Grilled Cheese Grill, a converted school bus/ airstream trailer/ slice of heaven.

The bacon, apple, bleu cheese sandwich was spectacular.

Post grilled cheese, we spent several hours walking around Powells and browsing. Then we needed more sustenance: donuts. We made a short hike to the famed Voodoo Donuts, where we waited in this line for forty minutes:

The result was unimpressive. I've had better donuts.

You'd think by that point we'd had enough food. Nope. (Remember we are professional eaters). Later that night we met up with M. Snowgoose and Co. for dinner a charcutterie. Then Cougar flew back to the East Coast. The next morning I needed something to counteract all that grease from the day before. I needed vegetables and protein. My solution:

The $10 bloody Mary/ salad in a drink from Nells. Yes, that's olives, pepperchini, shrimp, cheese, cocktail onion, and green beans. Believe me, it was delicious.

I hate to say it but Portland offers a better feast than Seattle.
